Achilles Tendon – Tear, Rupture, Injury

Description

It is used for walking, running and jumping. It is the largest tendon in the body, connecting calf muscle to heel bone. It is very strong, yet easily injured. β€œIt” is the Achilles tendon. Find out how to deal with an Achilles injury.

Causes & Triggers

Signs & Symptoms

  • Debilitation
  • Irritation at back of heel
  • Pain along back of leg
  • Popping noise
  • Swelling along tendon

Tips & Treatment

  • Injury can occur suddenly.
  • Partial tears are common in middle- and long-distance runners.
  • Ruptures can happen to anyone but are more frequent in:
    • Middle-age athletes or weekend warriors
    • Sprinters and others participating in sports requiring bursts of activity
    • Anyone improperly prepared for sudden activity or inadequately trained
