Dr. Ryan Blackwell is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine. He specializes in the comprehensive care of knee and shoulder conditions, with a primary focus on knee injuries including ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair and transplantation, cartilage restoration procedures, and complex ligamentous reconstructions. His shoulder expertise includes rotator cuff repair, labral repair, shoulder stabilization surgeries, and shoulder arthroplasty (joint replacement) for patients with arthritis or irreparable rotator cuff tears.
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Blackwell provides full-spectrum non-operative and operative sports medicine care, managing everything from overuse injuries and tendinopathies to fracture care and return-to-play decisions. He is dedicated to helping athletes—from youth to professional—safely return to sport using individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
Dr. Blackwell also treats general orthopedic trauma and fracture injuries, and works closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other specialists to ensure coordinated, high-level care for every patient.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at The Ohio State University and his fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic-Denver, where he gained extensive experience in the treatment of high-level athletes and complex joint injuries.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Blackwell enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenna, and their two children, Emma and Grayson. He is an active member of his community and remains involved in local sports organizations as both a team physician and youth sports advocate.
