Description
Osteotomy literally means “cutting of the bone.” In a knee osteotomy, either the shinbone (tibia) or thighbone (femur) is cut and reshaped to relieve pressure on the knee joint. This procedure is often used to treat early-stage osteoarthritis that has damaged only one side of the knee joint. By shifting your weight off the damaged side, an osteotomy can relieve pain and improve overall knee function.
