Osteotomies
Description
This surgical procedure is designed to relieve pain and instability of the hip caused by an abnormally shallow hip socket. In this procedure, the socket is cut and freed from the pelvis, then repositioned at an angle that stabilizes the hip and provides adequate support for the femoral head. First, the femur is separated from the pelvis, and the worn artificial parts are removed. To remove the old femoral component, the bone around it may need to be cut into sections. This procedure is called an osteotomy.
