Dr. Ferrel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in spine surgery. Dr. Ferrel has a special interest in minimally invasive and motion preserving spine procedures, including microscopic and ligament-sparing cervical and lumbar spine surgeries. He also has additional training to care for complex spine and spinal cord problems including spine cancers/tumors, spinal deformities, spine trauma, and revision spine surgeries.
Raised in Canton, Ohio, Dr. Ferrel earned his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, where he was ranked first in a class of 104. He completed his orthopedic residency with Mount Carmel Health System, here in Columbus, where he served as Chief Orthopedic Surgery Resident and earned the John R. Kean Resident of the Year award. Dr. Ferrel then went on to complete his fellowship training in spine surgery from the University of Utah Medical Center.
Dr. Ferrel is currently serving on the Arthritis Foundation’s Community Network Committee. This group, comprised of medical professionals, focuses on promoting the Live Yes! INSIGHTS program, which features ongoing scientific studies that provide people with arthritis an opportunity to help shape conversations around improving care and making progress toward finding a cure for arthritis.
Dr. Ferrel and his wife reside in Bexley with their three children. His personal interests include traveling, golfing, snowboarding, soccer, football, running, and cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Dr. Ferrel is a spine surgeon with locations in Westerville and Gahanna/Reynoldsburg.
