A Patient Story
I had my hip replaced about 3 years ago. Before I had the procedure, my quality of life was in decline. I was 46 years old and had led an active lifestyle which included hiking, backpacking, playing soccer in college, and many other activities. For about 5 years leading up to my surgery, little if any of this was happening. I had accepted that it was just part of getting older and my body was breaking down. I was gaining weight, eating unhealthy, and to be honest, I just wasn’t happy. I finally made the decision to do the surgery. I cannot tell you how life changing this was. I had fears of missing work for extended time, being laid up away from my kids. These fears were just that. The reality was I was back at work in 6 days. I didn’t skip a beat interacting with my kids. And now, my lifestyle has significantly changed. I’m back down to my college soccer playing weight, eating healthier, and just yesterday, I hit my goal I set in January for the year to hike 365 miles (now I have my eye on 500 since I have 3 months to go). If you are worried about moving forward with surgery, I could not recommend it more. Moving forward with surgery has helped move my life forward in so many ways. In a sense, I have my life back! Many thanks to Dr. Pallante and Orthopedic ONE. Dr. Pallante is down to earth and listens. He is thorough yet to the point. I can’t imagine there is a better doctor is out there! My life is now one of goal setting and accomplishments rather than just accepting getting older.
