A Patient Story
I saw Dr. Smidt early 2025 following post-op complications after L knee meniscus repair. I developed, severe increase in arthritis of my knee and 2 spiral fractures mostly likely caused by aggressive PT. I was treated with knee bracing, knee injection and limited mobility. My knee condition declined, and I had a total knee replacement in October. I was very pleased with my surgery and the excellent results. Dr. Smidt and his nurse and office staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and supportive. The post-op regimen was unique. It involved very limited ambulation, that increased each week. Each hour, while awake, I had extreme knee elevation with icing for 40 min. It was followed by limited steps and exercises. Then, repeated the icing and knee elevation. I must admit, it was difficult for both me and my husband, my caretaker. I am a person who tends to “put-off” things. The fact that this routine was every hour, I had no choice. It is a commitment but well worth it.
