ORTHOPEDIC ONE HOSTS ADAPTIVE BIKE GIVEAWAY FOR KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Orthopedic ONE donated 14 fully adapted bikes to kids with varying degrees of disability through the Adaptive Sports Connection’s (ASC) Bikes To Go program.

Whether for recreation or therapy, recipients work with volunteer therapists from ASC to assure the bike is specifically tailored to their needs and abilities. The average cost for an adapted bike is $2,500. This event represents the largest bike giveaway from a single organization in ASC history.

The event was held on Wednesday, July 6, at the group’s Upper Arlington office and featured brief remarks from Adaptive Sports Connection Executive Director Sharon Schreiber and Orthopedic ONE partner and physician Dr. Pete Edwards. Following remarks, recipients received their fully adapted bikes and enjoyed their first ride around a festive, makeshift course – to the applause and excitement of guests and families! Several Orthopedic ONE physicians and their families attended.

Many of us take for granted the joy and freedom of a simple bike ride. At Orthopedic ONE, we understand both the physical and mental benefits of movement – and how difficult it can be when an injury or condition limits our abilities. We feel privileged to support the Adaptive Sports Connection’s mission to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through sports, outdoor and therapeutic recreation.”
