Dr. Joel Politi featured in Bexley Living Magazine

Orthopedic One currently employs over 500 and is the result of a 2013 merger between Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence and The Cardinal Orthopedic Institute.

Bexley resident Dr. Politi has been in private practice for over 15 years here in Columbus; when he started he joined Dick Briggs, Bud Houser and Dennis Taylor in a small orthopedic group called Central Ohio Orthopedic Group. As a group they grew the practice with mergers and acquisitions of top young surgeons to become The Cardinal Orthopedic Institute, where Dr. Politi served as President.

From there, he and the partners founded Orthopedic ONE in 2016, creating the largest physician-owned orthopedic and sports medicine practice in the state of Ohio. “It was important that we protect our role as physician owners, which affords us the right to help our patients decide what is best for them, and ensure they experience the highest quality of care and service.”

BL – Describe what your company does:

Dr. Politi: – “Orthopedic ONE is the largest physician-owned orthopedic and sports medicine practice in Ohio. We have a roster of 60 orthopedic physicians and specialists able to treat every orthopedic need, from the simplest fracture to the most complex condition. We have a wide range of expertise within the practice, including both surgical and non-surgical approaches to treating orthopedic conditions. Our physicians specialize in general orthopedic care, sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, foot and ankle, hand and upper extremity, spine, shoulder, knee, hip and joint replacement surgery.”

BL – Is there anything extraordinary/unique being done at Orthopedic ONE?:

Dr. Politi: We believe in supporting our patients throughout the entire spectrum of care. This means we also offer on-site imging and diagnostics, physical and occupational therapy centers, and access to outpatient surgical suites. At Orthopedic ONE we have one priority, the patient. And we will work with you, your family and your entire medical team to get you back to doing the things you love.

BL – Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice (whether general or specific) can you offer to the residents of your neighborhood?

Dr. Politi: “So my patients are generally coming to me with pain that has persisted for months or even years. My best advice would be to stop living in constant pain. Seek the advice of an orthopedic surgeon as soon as your pain begins to keep you from the things you love. There are so many options available today, both surgical and non-surgical. Sometimes, the solutions are very simple and sometimes, the treatment is more extensive. The best part of my job is seeing my patients get back to their favorite activities – whether exercising, golfing, plying with grandkids or just taking the dog for a walk. It’s a privilege to do what I do.”

After finishing his fellowship in Boston, the family moved back to Bexley in August of 2000 settling into North Bexley for four years before moving to their current residence in Central Bexley. The family loves the feel of the community, the people who live here and their ability to walk everywhere. “It is a community we feel very much at home in.”

BL – Tell us about your family:

Dr. Politi: “I met my beautiful wife 25 years ago in medical school and we have been married now for 22 years. We have been bless-ed with four daughters, Rachel (19), Leah (17), Annie (15) and Nina (11) who keep us very busy and sometimes young at heart. Rachel is a freshman at University of Virginia and a member of their women’s swim team. Leah and Annie are at Bexley High School and are very active in the music and theater departments. Nina is a 4th grader at Cassingham Elementary School. My wife and I love to exercise together and challenge ourselves. We have done many marathons, half marathons, and triathlons together. Participating in our daughters’ activities has been a pleasure and a major part of our lives. I also still try to follow the horses in my spare time as well.
