Orthopedic ONE is pleased to welcome Jason R. Ferrel, M.D., fellowship-trained spine surgeon

Orthopedic ONE is pleased to welcome its newest physician, Jason R. Ferrel, M.D., to the practice. A fellowship-trained spine surgeon, Dr. Ferrel specializes in minimally invasive and motion preserving spine procedures. He will see patients at the practice’s Gahanna/Reynoldsburg and Grove City locations, as well as a new satellite office in Canal Winchester slated to open this summer.

Dr. Ferrel is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon who will complete his fellowship training in spine surgery from the University of Utah Medical Center and University Orthopedic Center this month. He is currently the attending orthopedic surgeon at Veteran(s) Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System in Utah.

Raised in Canton, Ohio, Dr. Ferrel earned his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, where he was ranked first in a class of 104. He then completed his orthopedic residency with Mount Carmel Health System, here in Columbus, where he served as Chief Orthopedic Surgery Resident and earned the John R. Kean Resident of the Year award.

Dr. Ferrel has a special interest in minimally invasive and motion preserving spine procedures, including microscopic and ligament-sparing cervical and lumbar spine surgeries. He specializes in both artificial disc replacement surgery and spinal fusions for treatment of degenerative disc disease. He also has additional training to care for complex spine and spinal cord problems including spine cancers/tumors, spinal deformities, spine trauma, and revision spine surgeries.

“One of my favorite things about spine surgery is the recent advancement in surgical techniques,” says Dr. Ferrel. “Minimally invasive and motion-sparing procedures provide new, and many times better, options for my patients considering surgery.”

He will hold surgical privileges at Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel West and the Surgery Center at Easton, and will join an experienced team of neck and spine surgeons at the practice, including Dr. David Hannallah and Dr. Milan Herceg.

With his wife (Joanna) and two children, Dr. Ferrel is looking forward to returning to central Ohio and working alongside familiar physicians and mentors from his time at Mount Carmel Health System. His personal interests include traveling, golfing, snowboarding, soccer, football, running and cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He is now accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Ferrel or learn more about his practice, click here, or call (614) 545-7900.
