Labral Tear of the Shoulder

Description

Like many other shoulder conditions, the prevalent symptom of this condition is pain. This time, though, the pain results from a tear in the cartilage or labrum of the shoulder joint that holds the arm bone in place. Find out what causes it and how it’s treated.

Signs & Symptoms

  • Aching
  • Catching
  • Grinding
  • Limited range of motion
  • Pain (especially shoulder, arm)
  • Popping
  • Sensation of “looseness”
  • Weakness

Tips & Treatment

  • Non-surgical treatments may include rest, hot or cold packs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication and/or physical therapy.
  • Surgical repair may be an option, depending on the nature and severity of the tear.
